What Is the Tajweed Course?

The word Tajweed comes from the Arabic root meaning “to make better” or “to improve”. In the context of the Quran, it refers to the set of rules that govern exactly how each letter, word, and verse of the Quran must be pronounced — rules established by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself through divine revelation.

Allah ﷻ commands in the Quran: “And recite the Quran with measured recitation” (Surah Al-Muzzammil, 73:4). The scholars of Islam are unanimous, reciting the Quran without Tajweed, when one is capable of learning it, is something every Muslim should strive to correct.

The Tajweed Rules Covered in This Course

Makharij al-Huruf (Articulation Points)

Every Arabic letter originates from a specific point in the mouth, throat, or nasal cavity. Mastering Makharij is the single most important foundation of correct Quranic recitation — and the area where most self-taught readers have the most to gain. Your teacher identifies and corrects your specific letter sounds from the very first lesson.

Sifaat al-Huruf (Letter Characteristics)

Beyond where a letter comes from, each Arabic letter has characteristics — qualities like heaviness (Tafkheem), lightness (Tarqeeq), whistling (Safeer), and repetition (Takraar). Understanding these qualities is what separates good recitation from beautiful recitation.

Noon Saakin & Tanween Rules

Four essential rules — Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab, and Ikhfa — govern how a Noon without a vowel (Noon Saakin) and double vowel endings (Tanween) are pronounced when followed by different letters. These rules appear constantly throughout the Quran.

Why UK Muslims Choose
Iqra Quran Class to Perfect Their Tajweed

Completely One-to-One — Your Recitation, Your Teacher's Full Attention

Tajweed can only be learned by listening and being listened to. In a group class, your teacher simply cannot hear every student recite and catch every mistake. In our one-to-one sessions, your teacher listens to every single word you recite, corrects every error immediately, and ensures no mistake goes unaddressed or becomes a habit.

Qualified Teachers with Ijazah-Level Recitation

Our Tajweed teachers are not simply Quran readers — they are qualified, with strong foundations in the science of Tajweed and the ability to identify and correct the specific pronunciation errors most common among UK-raised learners. They bring both knowledge and patience to every lesson.

Personalised Assessment from Day One

Every new student begins with a recitation assessment. Your teacher listens carefully to how you currently recite, identifies your specific areas for improvement, and builds a completely personalised Tajweed plan around those needs. No two students receive the same programme.

Rules Taught Through Direct Recitation — Not Just Theory

Many Tajweed courses focus heavily on memorising rules without applying them. At Iqra Quran Class, every rule is immediately practised in real Quranic recitation during the same lesson. You learn the rule, you understand it, and you apply it — so it becomes natural, not just theoretical knowledge.
